On 28 August, the team from Elevate Her Uganda reached out to Ms. Koruramburo Alice, a resilient woman from Kashari, Mbarara, who has been bravely battling colon cancer for the last four years.
Alice’s story is both heartbreaking and inspiring. With no family to lean on, and no children of her own, she survives by the grace of God and her own strength. Despite her struggles, she remains a testament to courage and perseverance.
Alice receives minimal medical care through Hospice Africa Uganda in Mbarara, where she pays UGX 15,000 every month for a small supply of medication. That support is not enough, and she continues to carry the burden of illness without proper treatment.
What we brought
Recognising her pressing needs, our team gave Alice a package of essential food and household items to last her a month. We also gave her a mobile phone, so that we can stay in touch and follow up, and a small upkeep contribution towards her monthly medical costs.
Why it matters
At Elevate Her Uganda, we believe that every woman deserves dignity, love and support, especially when she is most vulnerable. Alice’s journey reflects the hidden struggles many women face in silence: isolated, without family, and battling life-threatening illness. It is our mission to stand with them, offering not just aid but hope.
We call on compassionate Ugandans and well-wishers everywhere to join hands with us in giving Alice, and others like her, more lasting support. Together, we can restore dignity, bring healing, and remind women in their toughest battles that they are not alone.
